RECAP: MCCA 2026 Day on the Hill

March 2026
Thank you to all who attended our March 10th Day on the Hill! We had record registrations and attendance--obviously, recent challenges energized people to come use their voice. We were thankful to have several guest speakers come visit with us about their priorities for child care: House Children & Families Committee Co-Chair Rep. Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn (DFL-Eden Prairie), and Sens. Mark Koran (R-North Branch) and Liz Boldon (D-Rochester) of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee.

Throughout the day, attendees moved in and out of the space for meetings with their lawmakers in offices and sometimes hallways. With fraud, the funding freeze, ICE enforcement activity, new licensing standards, and more, there was no shortage of topics to discuss.

The day ended with a live stream (in-person for those who managed to get tickets in a packed room) of the House Children & Families Committee hearing discussing Harvey's Law, the video camera bill named for Harvey Muklebust, an infant murdered in a Minnesota child care center last fall. More on that below.

Thank you to our lunch sponsor, Marsh McLennan, and to the team at Flaherty & Hood for endless appointment scheduling (and rescheduling, and rescheduling), organizing wonderful materials, ensuring people could park without getting towed, and, in general, making the day run smoothly for all involved.
