LICENSING - MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES
Representative from the Minnesota Department of Human Services and Minnesota Department of Health will present information and updates regarding the Child Care Assistance Program, the Provider Hub, regulation modernization, background studies, legislation, child care center licensing, and new water testing requirements.

1. Preventing The Development of Bias: Navigating Difficult Conversations About Race and Bias in Early Childhood Education 
In this session participants will explore strategies to prevent the development of bias in young children, equip educators with tools to navigate challenging conversations about race and bias with adults and children, and provide actionable insights for creating equitable classrooms. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in lively discussion and problem-solving opportunities and gain practical approaches to support diversity, inclusion, and anti-bias education from an early age.

Sheila Williams Ridge is the Director of the University of Minnesota Child Development Laboratory School and Board Chair for Young Hearts Open Minds. She has a BA in Biology, an MA in Education, and an Ed D in Education Leadership. Sheila teaches courses at the University of Minnesota and Hamline University including Nature-Based Learning in Early Childhood, A Sense of Wonder, Equity, and Inclusion in Environmental Education. She is also co-author of the book, Nature-Based Learning for Young Children: Anytime, Anywhere, on Any Budget, and has co-authored several other publications on nature-based learning.
