Major News Out of Washington D.C. – Doubled Funding for CCDBG!

We recently got some exciting news at the federal level: years of advocacy to double Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) funding came to fruition, and Congress reached a budget agreement to double spending on child care by almost $2 billion more dollars per year. MCCA led the effort in Minnesota to collect sign-ons to a final-push letter to our federal delegation asking for just this, and a few days later those efforts paid off. We’re not saying the final letter sealed the deal, but we are saying that every piece of advocacy-- every letter, every email, every call, every meeting, year after year—really can add up to big steps forward in our field. Thank you to those of you who supported this effort!

You can check out FAQs about the new funding here. The Center for Law and Social Policy estimates that Minnesota is set to receive an additional $38 million in federal funds as a result of this budget agreement.

MCCA will strongly advocate for these additional funds to be put toward increasing provider reimbursement rates in CCAP, both to increase family access to quality and to help providers pay for quality and the staff it requires. Tying rates to the most recent Market Rate Survey is something MN still needs to do to come into compliance with the 2014 federal CCDBG reauthorization, and these new funds are intended to assist states in meeting the new requirements that law created.
